THE PUBLIC TAKES CENTER STAGE DURING THE 1ST INTERACTIVE FOLKLORE MARATHON SPONSORED BY FITUR 2011(ENG)

Madrid, (ifema.es).- If there is one thing that defines today’s tourist it is his desire for unique travels in
which he feels like he is in charge of his trip and able to experience things first-hand.
In response to this new demand and desire to enjoy, right up close, the greatest variety
of activities, FITUR sponsors the 1st Interactive Folklore Marathon, an activity which
represents an extension of the Folklore Festival celebrating the peoples of the world,
which has enjoyed extraordinary support and success for 30 years at the Fair. Now,
with the title Folklore&Art With Us, travel lovers will be invited to enjoy a series of
traditions and dances, live and in-person.

To this end, on Saturday, January 22nd and Sunday, January 23rd performances by folk
groups will be rounded out by workshops where the public can learn some secrets of
the artistic heritages of countries around the world, along with some Spanish regions.
For these two days mornings will feature lessons on dancing and other skills, such as
percussion and crafts, along with other folklore-related disciplines. In the afternoon
visitors will be able to admire the beauty of these dances at a show to be performed
by professionals. On Sunday, coinciding with the closing of the Marathon, workshop
attendees will join their teachers in order to, together, wind up a weekend of shared
culture and fun.

Through this initiative FITUR aims to encourage public participation in the fair and to
expose attendees like never before to the unique treasures of different peoples, spurring
them to explore their cultural heritages – which are also an important draw for travellers
when deciding their tourism destinations.
